SPEAKER: REP. KELLEY APPOINTED TO TRANSPARENCY BOARD

Topeka – Kansas Speaker of the House of Representatives Melvin Neufeld (R-Ingalls) announced today he has re-appointed Rep. Kasha Kelley to represent the House on the Public Finance Transparency Board.

“Rep. Kelley strongly believes Kansans should be able to see how every dollar of their tax money is spent by state agencies. She led the way when the Legislature established the Kansas Taxpayer Transparency Act,” Speaker Neufeld said. “Thanks to her leadership and never quit attitude, the state now has a searchable website where Kansans can learn about state revenue and spending. I am confident that as a board member, she will continue to fight for more open government.”

Rep. Kelley represents the 79th House District. She is Vice-Chairman of the House General Government Budget Committee and also serves on the House Commerce and Labor Committee and the House Governmental Efficiency and Technology Committee.

The 2008 Legislature established the board through the passage of Sub. for Sub. for Senate Bill 316 – the Kansas Governmental Operations Accountability Law. The board will advise the Secretary of Administration on the website’s content. The state’s searchable website is located at http://www.kansas.gov/kanview/ .

SB 316 also established the Kansas Taxpayer Transparency Act and the Kansas Performance Measurement Commission. It also directs the State Post Auditor to audit at least four state agencies each year to determine whether they are still needed and if so, decide how they could operate more efficiently.
